Why did I have to enrol in a course (at the OU) about the internet to find out about things like "RSS" and "Delicious?"

20 past 2 in the morning and I should already be in bed but I'm trying to do some research for an assignment in my latest Open Uni unit - Web Communications. Naturally I'm leaving everything to the last minute. Even after four units I've not yet been able to complete assignments with a week to spare, not even a day, an hour, perhaps a minute, though.

It's interesting and even as I am cursing my inability to schedule my time more efficiently, I'm also beginning to understand some of the issues. For e.g., today I managed to install an RSS feeder - Snarfer, I think, and even add some links to sites like The Daily Mail to it.

The puzzling thing for me is that I knew how to find websites for newspapers but I didn't know you could get an RSS feed. Why don't "they" advertise it, whoever "they" are? Same with Delicious. I'd never heard of it until it came up in my course.

In truth I've never really learnt more than the basics, not unlike driving a car for a few months before finding out there is more than one forward gear. Maybe not a good analogy. There is an "overdrive" button on my gear shift which I'm never sure if I'm using or not.

Blogging is this week's topic so maybe I'll find out how to do that properly.

0230. At least I managed an AFD, my second of the year.
